         Undeniably the most maintained baoli of India, Agrasen Ki Baoli is one of the historic monuments in Delhi. It is also called Ugrasen Ki Baoli. This ancient water reservoir rises from the depths of the earth to stand atop 103 stone steps. As suggested by its name, Agrasen Ki Baoli – means the baoli of Agrasen. Agrasen was a king and baoli (stepwell). So, it’s Stepwell of Agrasen.

        This impressive structure lies in between the business towers and residential apartments of Central Delhi on Halley Road. Maintained by the Archaeological Survey Of India, this monument is protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. Although there is no proof that who is behind building Agrasen Ki Baoli, still there is a popular belief that King Agrasen Built this magnificent architecture at the time of Mahabharat. That is in 14th century. Later, it was rebuilt by Aggarwal communities who are said to be descendant of Maharaja Agrasen. It is on 10th position on Top 10 haunted places in India.

        Now talking about hautings in this place,locals believe it to be haunted by the ghosts and satanic demons who lurk in the shadows following visitors around. Tourists have complained about feeling an uncanny dread once they step inside. Many consider this place as one of the haunted places in Delhi and it is advisable to not go there at night.

        There are also rumors that this Baoli used to have black water which used to attract people to jump in there and commit suicide. A case of suicide was brought in light by media in the year 2007, at that time water was only 4-5 feet deep.

        Many a time strange sounds, like the sound of anklet, creeks (like opening doors) are heard and that’s the reason why people are not allowed to stay there after 6 PM.
